JMAC Goes to the Obon Festival~

Hi all!

I hope everyone had a festive 4th of July weekend. In other news, I have crafted the majority of this JMAC email while in a waiting room for jury duty. *fist pumps* ‘murica!

Want to celebrate the rich traditions of others this weekend while making the most of a July summer night?

The Obon Odori Festival is a widely celebrated and colorful Buddhist festivity that honors loved ones who have passed away. The Midwest Buddhist Temple carries out the custom of honoring the spirits of one’s ancestors between mid-July and mid-August. Join JMAC on Saturday, July 11th for the Obon Festival, a summer night filled with traditional Japanese music, dancing, and live taiko drumming.

Joe will be leading a group that will rendezvous in front of the Barnes & Noble on the Loop campus. Meanwhile, I (Sara~) will be leading a Lincoln Park group meeting by the Babe Crusher statue in front of the Student Center. Both Lincoln Park and Loop groups will meet at 6:30pm and leave at 7pm for the Midwest Buddhist Temple.

More information about this event can be found on the Facebook event page for the JMAC 2015-2016 group. Hope to see you on Saturday evening for this summer outing!

Sincerely yours,
Sara S.
JMAC Secretary
