JMAC FQ Week 7: Ninja/Dance Party and Shingu

Why hello there,

Hopefully this quarter isn’t wearing you down too much. I mean, yeah, we all have those days where we have to get down and rest, but there are other days when we have to get down (during JMAC, of course) and dance!!

JMAC Reminders: Halloween Masquerade

Join us on Saturday, October 31st for our Halloween Masquerade! We’ll be celebrating Halloween and cheering on masquerade participants as they show off their awesome costumes and cosplays!

This Monday (at 11:59pm) is the last day to enter the Masquerade. Show off your cosplay/costume in the spirit of Halloween for a chance to win prizes! Email us with “Masquerade Participation” in the subject line with (1) your name (2) your cosplay character & franchise (3) link to background audio (via youtube, preferably) and (4) anything we should know (choreography or performance bits). Non-DePaul students/DePaul alumni are welcome to enter, and as a lil incentive, all masquerade participants will receive a gourmet doughnut! :D

Cool Outside-of-JMAC Events

Peelander-Z, the Japanese Action Comic Punk Band, is having a Halloween Concert! The show will take place at Reggie’s Music Joint at 8pm on Halloween night. (Keep in mind that she show is 21+) Information about Peelander-Z can be found on their website and tickets for this concert can be purchased via ticketfly.

The Japanese American Service Committee is holding their annual Holiday Delight – Kodomo Matsuri (Children’s Festival) on Saturday, November 14th. This community event features food vendors, taiko performances, traditional dancers… and Santa! JASC is seeking volunteers for this event! If you’d like to volunteer, email us with “JASC Volunteering” in the subject and we’ll put you in contact with the lovely Monse, a JMAC alum, for more information~

Next Week’s Meeting: Fall Quarter Week 7

Our next meeting will be on Monday, October 26th from 4-9pm in room 325 of the Lincoln Park Student Center. Join us for social hour at 4pm with a game of Ninja followed by a spontaneous dance party. (Spontaneous dance parties for ninjas? I think yes.)

Around 5:30pm, we will be screening our weekly showing Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars. This adventure/sci-fi anime is about middle schooler Hajime Murata, who witnesses a transfer student fight using psychic powers. Hajime then learns that earth is protected from alien invasion using the ability of “Shingu,” and discovers his own role in protecting earth’s future.

And as always, around 7:30pm we will be continuing our running series The Hero Yoshihiko and the Demon King’s Castle. Yoshihiko has started new game+ on his journey in the second season of this live action comedy!

Last Week’s PowerPoint (Week 6)

Check out the slides from week 6 for pics of Japanese animation studios, a lighthearted shoujo manga, and a Korean girl group music video… because we lacked Japanese music videos submissions… (~awkward~)

…see ya
