JMAC SQ Week 7: Sushi Go and Super Sentai Akibarangers

Hi JMACers,

Welcome to Monday! It’s not the sunniest of Mondays (or sunniest of days in general) in the Chicago area, so perhaps it’s our own individual duty to provide a lil sunshine in the lives of others~

JMAC’s Friday Night Movie Night!

This Friday, JMAC will be hosting a movie night! Join us on Friday, May 13th from 6-10pm in Arts & Letters room 103 for screenings of two movies, Beautiful Dreamer and Millennium Actress. Though this event is BYOB, JMAC board members shall be providing popcorn for this event! :)

Beautiful Dreamer (Urusei Yatsura) is an animated comedic, fantasy film. When students in Tomoniki prepare for their upcoming school festival, the world begins to change and the next day never comes. As they find a way to address the problem, their beliefs of reality are challenged by the world of dreams.
Millennium Actress is an animated comedy-drama adventure that follows filmmaker Genya Tachibana and camera man Kyouji Ida interviewing retired actress Chiyoko Fujiwara. In a secluded mountain, Chiyoko reflects and narrates her illusionary journey through Japanese cinematic history, blurring the differences between reality and cinema.

JMAC SQ Week 6: Fighting Video Games and Non Non Biyori

Hiya JMACers,

Like the midseason rain, midterms season has fallen upon us (or at least for me, that is)… so… how are/were those midterms? Well, this is the halfway mark of spring quarter, and we gotta do our best~

Next Week: Spring Quarter Week 6

Take a break from midterms and join us for the 6th installment of JMAC for the spring quarter! We’ll be meeting this Monday, May 2nd from 4-9pm in room 324 of the Lincoln Park Student Center. We’ll begin our meeting with social hour by playing fighting video games!

The weekly showing for our next meeting will be Non Non Biyori. When 5th grader Hotaru Ichijo moves from Tokyo to the rural town of Asahigaoka, she becomes one of five students attending the only class in the only school in town. This comedic, slice-of-life anime chronicles the not-so-normal daily lives of the lively group of friends.

And as always, join us at 7:30pm to continue watching our running series Gatchaman Crowds: Insight.

Last Week’s PowerPoint: SQ Week 5 (aka JMAC Week 24)

Attached is the PowerPoint that was shown at last week’s meeting, themed with awesome Japanese museums! You’ll also find the final feature for April’s manga of the month (t/w: existential crises). This week’s music video is from a boy band formed by popular Nico Nico Douga singers.
