JMAC FQ Week 5: Kageru Panel and Fresh Pretty Cure

Hello everyone,

Following the aftermath of the Love Live! Hanayo event, a young adult is left on the brink of collapse. Though she earned the elusive SR+ Goddess of Harvest card in the midst of midterms, a pile of homework remains untouched. Eventually, she regains consciousness and utters the words “Must… send… weekly JMAC email…”

Some Reminders: Halloween Masquerade (and How to Enter!)

From 12-4pm on Halloween Day, JMAC will be hosting a Halloween Masquerade! Join us on Saturday, October 31st in room 314AB of the Lincoln Park Student Center for an afternoon of cosplay and costume-adorning activities~

But what’s a masquerade without participants? We’re seeking cosplay and performance entries for this year’s masquerade! Email us with “Masquerade Participation” in the subject line by Mon.10/26 with (1) your name (2) your cosplay character & franchise (3) link to background audio (via youtube, preferably) and (4) anything we should know (choreography or performance bits). Non-DePaul students/DePaul alumni are welcome to enter!

Next Week’s Meeting!

Drop in on Monday, October 12th in room 325 of the Lincoln Park Student Center from 4-9pm for more JMAC! Next week’s meeting will kick off with a panel about the Kagerou Project at 4pm.

Our weekly showing for next time will be Fresh Pretty Cure at 5:30pm. This show follows Miss Love Momozono, a girl who wants to be a dancer. After joining the Trinity Dance Company, she gains the ability to become Cure Peach to fight the Labyrnth Kingdom with her friends!

And as always, join us at approx. 7:30pm for more of our running series: Japanese Monthy Python x Dragon Quest Adventures (otherwise known as The Hero Yoshihiko and the Demon King’s Castle).

Last Week’s PowerPoint~

Attached is the PowerPoint from last week’s meeting! Check out the slides for pictures of super interesting restaurants in Tokyo! It also features a baby metal band music video as well as a new manga for the month of October about a twisted twin story.

Good luck on midterms, everyone!

JMAC FQ Week 4: Movie Night, Handheld Gaming, and GetBackers

Hi everybody!

September has ended, so y’all can wake up now. I hope you’ll have the time of your life this month, especially with the upcoming Halloween holiday. (:

Some Reminders:

Friday Night Movie Night is happening… tomorrow night! Join us on Friday, October 2nd in the Schmitt Academic Center (SAC) room 254 from 6-10pm!! We’ll be screening two movies, with Paprika as the first showing and Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris as the second showing~

— Paprika is an animated psychological movie about a device that allows therapists to enter people’s dreams. When the prototype of the device is stolen, renowned scientist Dr. Atsuko Chiba, alter-ego “Paprika,” uses the machine to prevent the misuse of the device.
— Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris is a live action Kaiju (“strange beast”) film. Gamera, a monstrous fire-breathing turtle, killed the parents of teenager Ayana Hirasaka. Orphaned Ayana discovers an egg that hatches a small tentacled creature she names “Iris” and bonds with this aggressive creature to confront Gamera.

JMAC is invited to attend a Japanese drumming performance! Chicago’s Ho Etsu Taiko and Los Angeles’ On Ensemble taiko groups present ROTATIONS. This performance will take place on Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th at the Athenaeum Theatre, located nearby the Wellington brown line stop. More information about ROTATIONS (as well as how to purchase tickets) is available on Athenaeum Theatre’s website.

Next Week’s Meeting: Fall Quarter Week 4

Our next meeting will take place in room 325 of the Lincoln Park Student Center on Monday, October 5th from 4-9pm. Next week’s meeting will kick off at 4pm with a handheld console social hour. Bring your PS Vita’s and your 3DS’s (or be like me and pose the argument that your phone can play video games) for the upcoming social hour!

Around 5:30pm, we will be screening GetBackers! This comedic anime is about “GetBackers” Ban Mido and Ginji Amano, a freelance repossession duo that retrieves any lost or stolen item. Because Ban and Ginji are terminally broke, the duo enthusiastically takes on bizarre jobs and use their supernatural abilities to maintain their 100% repossession success rate.

Afterwards ’round 7:30pm, we will continue with the lively adventures of Yoshihiko & co. in our running series The Hero Yoshihiko and the Demon King’s Castle.

Last Week’s PowerPoint (Week 3)

Attached is the PowerPoint from our previous meeting! This week’s slides feature 12 episode animes (that I highly approve of, just sayin’). Check out the slides for a manga that addresses the choices of youth and a song that was featured as the ending theme to Bakemonogatari.

Hope to see y’all at Friday Night Movie Night~

Serenely yours,
Sara S.

Next Week’s Meeting: Fall Quarter Week 1

Our first meeting of the year (yeyaaa!) will take place on Monday, September 14th from 4-9pm. We’ll be meeting in Monroe Hall rooms 114-116. Although we’ll be meeting for the entire time, you’re encouraged to come and go at your leisure while geeking out with us. :)

Our social hour starts at 4pm! This week’s social hour is more of a social mixer with general chatting and some nifty getting-to-know-you games.

Around 5pm we will start our weekly PowerPoint and introductions. Afterwards we will be screening Kara No Kyoukai: Mirai Fukuin. This movie is about Shizune Seo and Mitsuru Kamekura, who can foresee the future. Shizune was sick of her predictable boring life and Meruka became a professional bomber taking advantage of his supernatural power. When their fates cross with Shiki Ryougi, a teenage girl, who possesses the “Mystic Eyes of Death Perception”, their immutable future begin to change.

Lastly, around 7:30pm we will begin our running series, The Hero Yoshihiko and the Demon King’s Castle. Each meeting we will screen 2-3 episodes of this live action comedy about Yūsha Yoshihiko, a young, adventurous child who inevitably becomes The Hero Yoshihiko after the Hero Teruhiko, who went searching for a miracle herb to cure a plague which struck the village, never returned. He pulls a sacred sword from a stone within his village, which determines him as the next Hero. Due to these events, he must embark on a journey to the Evil King’s castle to find a cure for the plague that has stricken his village. Along the way, he finds many new companions and allies, who help him reach his ultimate goal.
