JMAC SQ Week 3: Spring Season Anime Panel and Mass Effect

Happy Friday, JMACers!

To the mathematics nerds out there, did you catch Square Root Day last Monday? (04/04/16) I mean, tbh I sorta forgot about it, but at least tomorrow’s date looks pretty cool! (04/09/16) (~even more perfect squares~)

*casual website-only update* According to my father, apparently today (04/08/16) is “Factor Four Day,” so yeah, happy Factor Four Day, everyone! 8D

Next Week’s Meeting: Spring Quarter Week 3

Join JMAC for the third meeting of the Spring Quarter! Our next meeting will take place in good ol’ Lincoln Park Student Center on Monday, April 11th from 4-9pm in room 314B. We’ll be starting social hour at 4pm with a panel about this season’s spring anime!

After an extensive, arduous, decision-making process by senior board members, the JMAC 2016-2017 PR’s will be revealed during the 5pm PowerPoint. Be sure to join us for this anticipated announcement!

Our showing for next week will be Mass Effect: Paragon Lost. This animated movie and prequel to Mass Effect 3 follows the early career of Alliance Marine, James Vega. While stationed on a colony in a remote star system, Vega and his troops must battle against an alien threat known as the Collectors and defend the colony at all costs.

And as always, join us as we continue screening this quarter’s running series Gatchaman Crowds.

Last Week’s PowerPoint: SQ Week 2 (aka JMAC Week 21)

Check out the PowerPoint slides from last week, themed with Miitomo, the <new> mobile app by Nintendo! There’s also a new manga for the month of April (that just-so-happened to be an ongoing anime last season, ohho) and a music video from the band that made its big break from the anime Black Butler.

T’is all I have for ya for this week. Stay solid, JMAC!

JMAC SQ Week 1: PR Applications, AnimeChicago Panel, and Noragami

What’s up, JMACers, and happy spring break!

Although it’s technically still spring break, the upcoming quarter is on the horizon! For me, spring quarter includes warmer weather, finishing up my senior thesis, and ACen! Y’know I’m sooo excited for this new quarter I’m gonna to emphasize all the subsections of this weekly email in Comic Sans!

PR applications open! (but not for long) D:

Would you like to become more involved with JMAC? Want to help organize JMAC events? Interested in eating pizza with a voice actor?? If so, consider joining JMAC board as a 2016-2017 Public Relations (PR) member!

Becoming a PR is a great start to becoming more involved with the club. (You’d be joining a group of awesome people!) (It’s also the starting point of becoming JMAC president.) PR members are responsible for organizing and promoting club activities. :D

To apply for PR, write a paragraph that includes (1) your name, (2) your current year in school and (3) why you’d make an awesome PR member! Candidates for PR will be interviewed during the beginning of spring quarter. Write professionally, and email us before Monday, March 28th at 11:59pm.

We’re looking forward to reviewing PR applications! (plz send us PR applications)

Next Week’s Meeting: Spring Quarter Week 1

The first meting of the quarter is almost here! Join us for a fresh start to JMAC on Monday, March 28th from 4-9pm in room 324 of the Lincoln Park Student Center.

Our social hour starts at 4pm, which will be a special panel hosted by the lovely folks at AnimeChicago! They’ll be hosting a panel about the anime social-scene in the Chicagoland area.

During our 5pm PowerPoint, we will have a special announcement to make about JMAC!!! (sooo be sure to come!)

After the PowerPoint, our weekly showing will be Noragami. This series follows Yato, a minor deity and self-proclaimed "Delivery God." Because he does not have a shrine in his name, he takes on odd jobs to earn money. After an almost-fatal car accident, he meets middle schooler Hiyori Iki who helps turn Yato’s luck around.

And finally, we will begin the new running series for the Spring Quarter, Gatchaman Crowds. This anime follows Hajime Ichinose, an enthusiastic girl who’s selected to become a "Gatchaman" warrior that fights against mysterious alien life forms known as MESS. However, Hajime doesn’t take her duties very seriously and causes dismay amongst the other Gatchaman fighters.

Last Week’s PowerPoint: WQ Week 10

Technically not last week, but nonetheless, it’s the latest and greatest JMAC PowerPoint! You’ll find the slides to the final WQ PowerPoint attached to this email. The slides are themed with Cool Japanese Fast Food, feature a new manga for the month of March, and includes a video that is the ending to the anime Nichijou.

Stay spunky, JMAC!

The last meeting of the quarter is the General Meeting! Instead of a weekly showing, we’ll circle up and review the previous quarter’s events and activities, open the floor to compliments and critiques ’bout the club, and plan out social hours and showings for the spring quarter!

Finally, after the General Meeting, we’ll conclude the second running series for the winter quarter Terror in Resonance.

JMAC WQ Week 9: Asian Ball-Jointed Doll Panel and THE iDOLM@STER

Hello JMACers,

Hope everyone’s last full week of February has been well! I was tempted to mention finals in the opening line of this email, but I’m not quite ready to think about that yet… D:

Next Week’s Meeting: Winter Quarter Week 9

Join us for the next meeting for the quarter on Monday, February 29th (leap year day!) from 4-9pm in room 380 of the Lincoln Park Student Center.

Our social hour starts at 4pm, and it will be a panel about Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls, which are dolls with a realistic image (oftentimes influenced by anime) that are produced in Japan, South Korea and China.

Next week’s weekly showing will be The iDOL@STER, an anime that follows 13 girls from the talent agency 765 Production. Each girls dreams of becoming a top idol, and the series follows how each girl develops her image as an idol, her struggles, and her ongoing relationship with the producer.
Official endorsement from JMAC president Eric: Makoto is best girl.

And finally, we will continue watching our second running series for the winter quarter, Terror in Resonance.

Last Week’s PowerPoint: WQ Week 8 (aka JMAC Week 17)

To those who didn’t make it in time for last week’s PowerPoint (like me throughout this entire quarter, lol), you’ll find the slides attached to this email!

The slides for this week are themed with famous Japanese shrines and temples! The slides also feature a horror-themed manga of the month and a music video from the group who performed the opening of Death Parade.
