JMAC FQ Week 10: Cosplay Panel and the General Meeting~

Greetings JMACers!

This is typically the section of the weekly email where I provide some sort of encouragement or witty insight into life. Or lack thereof. Yes. (btw download Neko Atsume, a cat collecting app. highlight of my week right there.)

Some Reminders

Geek ‘Til Dawn is tonight, November 13th! This event is DeFrag’s biggest event of the quarter, an all-night lock-in at DePaul’s CDM building on the loop campus. Check-in begins at 6pm in the CDM lobby for a night of video games, board games, movies, and other nerdy nonsense~ JMAC will be presenting showings of One Punch Man, Psycho-Pass, Summer Wars and Mardock Scramble. ^.^

As as a final reminder, the Japanese American Service Committee is hosting their annual Holiday Delight – Kodomo Matsuri (Children’s Festival) tomorrow, Saturday, November 14th. If you’d like to volunteer and help out at this event, email us at JMAC with “JASC Volunteering” in the subject line!

Next Meeting: Fall Quarter Week 10

Next week’s meeting is the last one of the quarter! Join us on Monday, November 16th from 4-9pm in room 325 of the Lincoln Park Student Center. This week’s social hour will begin at 4pm, which will be a panel about cosplay.

In lieu of a weekly showing, we have the most important meeting of the quarter: the General Meeting! All are invited to offer their opinions on previous JMAC meetings/events and offer suggestions for how to make the club better during the winter quarter.

The general meeting is also when we, the members of JMAC, select winter quarter’s social hours (social activities), weekly showings (viewing activities), and running series (routine viewing activities). Browse through the showing archive on our website to get a gist of showings we’ve already shown~

We’ll conclude our final fall quarter meeting with the last two episodes of our live action running series The Hero Yoshihiko and the Demon King’s Castle.

Last Week’s PowerPoint (Week 9)

Attached is the PowerPoint from our last meeting, themed with Japanese novels in honor of National Novel Writing Month, aka NaNoWriMo. (You can do it, November novel writers!) These slides also feature a comedic manga about human/dinosaur coexistence and a music video of the opening to last quarter’s running series. (Can you guess which opening it is?) :P

Stay snazzy, JMAC!

JMAC FQ Week 9: Witch Hunt and Animatrix

Hi everyone,

This is the calm before the storm, the time before a dreaded finals week and a Thanksgiving feast in the distance; but what’s in the immediate foreground? Ah yes, it’s National Nachos Day! Have some fun and treat ‘yo self (w/nachos) before the finals storm hits. (:

Some Reminders

Next week is DeFrag’s biggest event of the quarter: Geek ‘Til Dawn. This event is an all night lock-in at the DePaul CDM building. Let your geek flag fly all night long with board games, video games, movies and more~ JMAC will be collaborating with DeFrag to provide anime showings all night long!

On next Saturday, November 14th, the Japanese American Service Committee is holding a community event called Holiday Delight – Kodomo Matsuri (Children’s Festival). Though this event features taiko performances, traditional dancers and food vendors, JASC is seeking volunteers for this event! If you’d like to volunteer, email us with "JASC Volunteering" in the subject line to get in contact with former JMAC vice president Monse for more info about the opportunity!

Next Week’s Meeting: Fall Quarter Week 9

Join us around 5:30ish for Animatrix, the upcoming weekly showing! This American-Japanese animated movie is… actually a compilation of nine short animated films? Which details the backstory of the Matrix universe? Nice.

There are only a few episodes left of our live action running series The Hero Yoshihiko and the Demon King’s Castle. Join us ’round 7:30pm to continue on with Yoshihiko’s adventures!

Last Week’s PowerPoint (Week 8)

JMAC FQ Week 8: Halloween Masquerade, Karaoke and Princess Tutu

Hiya everyone,

Today is Thursday, or what I’d like to call Friday-eve. Although Friday will be the actual eve of Halloween, we ought to appreciate all that today has to offer on this Friday-eve, or what I’d like to call "the eve of the eve of Halloween." :P

This is a community event with food vendors, taiko performances, traditional dancers and a visit from the large holiday fellow in red. JASC is seeking volunteers for this event! If you’d like to volunteer, email us with "JASC Volunteering" in the subject and we’ll put you in contact with Monse, a former JMAC vice president, for more info about this opportunity!

Next Week’s Meeting: Fall Quarter Week 8

Join us next week, Monday, November 2nd from 4-9pm in room 325 of the Lincoln Park Student Center for a meeting with the best Japanese Media Appreciation Club on the DePaul campus! :D Our meeting will begin with a social hour of nostalgic karaoke — singing to tunes from childhood television shows~

Our weekly showing for the next meeting will be Princess Tutu. This fairy tale-like anime begins when the young duckling Ahiru is transformed into a human girl. Using her egg-shaped pendant, Ahiru becomes Princess Tutu, a beautiful ballerina, and is faced with the challenge to relieve people from the turmoil in their hearts.

Following the weekly showing, we’ll continue with more episodes of our live action running series The Hero Yoshihiko and the Demon King’s Castle. With a comedic Halloween-themed episode behind us, what will happen next time in our hero’s adventures?

Last Week’s PowerPoint (Week 7)

Attached are slides from the PowerPoint from last week, themed with a variety of Japanese vending machines. This is the final week to find out more about our featured shoujo manga about twins, and a music video by a j-rock band currently touring the U.S. with alternative bands Sleeping With Sirens and All Time Low.

Hope to see ya at the Masquerade, and have a happy Halloween!

Spookily yours,
Sara S.

Hajime then learns that earth is protected from alien invasion using the ability of “Shingu,” and discovers his own role in protecting earth’s future.

And as always, around 7:30pm we will be continuing our running series The Hero Yoshihiko and the Demon King’s Castle. Yoshihiko has started new game+ on his journey in the second season of this live action comedy!

Last Week’s PowerPoint (Week 6)

Check out the slides from week 6 for pics of Japanese animation studios, a lighthearted shoujo manga, and a Korean girl group music video… because we lacked Japanese music videos submissions… (~awkward~)
